Menopause Yoga Workshops

Updated: Jan 8, 2021

Workshop Session 1: A Vata Balancing Practice for calming the nervous system to manage anxiety, insomnia, fatigue, brain fog and feelings of overwhelm. Thursday 21st January 7:30-9pm

Menopause yoga is suitable for for all women from age 35+  at all stages of menopause from peri-menopause to post menopause and beyond.

Menopause is a transitional condition that can disturb all the doshas depending on your individual constitution and imbalances. The peri-menopausal, menopausal and post-menopausal stages of life are unique to each woman but universal to all women.

Vata-type menopausal symptoms tend to include depression, anxiety, panic attacks, brain fog, fatigue and insomnia and feelings of overwhelm caused by a decrease in the metabolism (internal fire or agni). Seated in the colon, in Ayurvedic terms Vata is the subtle energy associated with all movement in the body, mind and cells: breathing, blinking, muscle and tissue movement, and beating of the heart. It enables our fluids to flow, our nerve impulses to fire, our thoughts to coalesce, and manages elimination of waste. In other words, Vata keeps all of our systems going and contributes to great vitality. Because of Vata's association with the nervous system, it has a big impact on our mental health. When Vata is in balance, we tend to be enthusiastic, imaginative, funny, quick to learn, and spiritually minded. But an excess of Vata during menopause can leave us susceptible to feeling more fearful, scattered, or worried than usual. Physically, some symptoms of excess Vata include pain variable appetite, insomnia, dry skin, constipation, flatulence, and irregular menstruation.

If you're feeling overstimulated or fatigued gentle Hatha yoga helps to regulate Vata's mobile nature. More restorative yoga poses further encourage deep relaxation and resisting the tendency to talk unnecessarily, and settling into rejuvenating silence whenever you can helps to settle and quieten the mind.

Menopause Yoga Workshops - Minimum 6 attendees

Our special workshop will begin with a nurturing women’s sharing circle where you can choose to share your own experience or just quietly listen and observe.

Women have been sharing stories and experiences for centuries and this can help really us to feel connected and supported by our sisters.

We will then move into some beautiful flowing and restorative poses before a wonderful and balancing relaxation session.

You may wish to bring a journal and pen. Bring an open heart and mind.
